I suspect my experience with my grandchildren is not different from most people. When my daughter was born back in the late 60's we were struggling to start our home and build a career. I remember many great times with her as a child as well as with my son who was born just a few years after my daughter. Years flew by as they both started school, went through their development years, into high school and finally college. Before we knew what happen, both found great life mates and married. Then just three short years ago my first grandchild was born. A sweet little boy. Then shortly thereafter, my first granddaughter. These two great kids were followed by two more little girls during the last year. Out of no where I became a grandfather of four grandchildren. Now what do I do? I raised my kids, borrowed money for braces, bicycles, skates, college, cars and oh yes, the more cost than you can believe, auto insurance. Now it starts over again, but this time the above financial issues belong to their proud parents. At least I hope, which I know isn't always true for some grandparents today when their children have financial problems, get divorced or other issues. |
